Do you really know God?

Isaiah spoke of a time when “the earth will be full of the knowledge of the Lord” (Is 11:9). Yet the knowledge he spoke of entailed far more than a world where the name of Jesus is universally recognized. He was speaking of the day when the souls of men would discover the knowledge of God through their faith in Jesus Christ.  Jesus prayed that you and I might live lives that daily experienced the encounters with Him that produce this divine knowledge. He prayed that we would experience a knowledge of God that would far surpass the natural knowledge of names, dates, and facts that many today base their claim of salvation.  Jesus both spoke of and made possible a knowledge that would be based upon fellowship and a personal encounter with God.

   Jesus prayed that all of His followers would experience this type of knowledge. He declared that this was what His mission was all about saying “this is eternal life, to know you the one true God and Jesus Christ whom you have sent” (Jn.17:3). Even the educated and devout Paul the apostle sought this type of soul saving knowledge saying “I want to know Christ and the power of His resurrection…” (Php 3:10).  Jesus even said that a lack of this knowledge would lead to man’s separation from God for eternity (Mt.7:23).

    Jesus declared that this was the work that He came to accomplish, to make the Father in Heaven known to men on earth. He prayed “I have made you known to them, and will continue to make you known” (Jn 17:26).  By the work of the Holy Spirit, Jesus continues to “make known”  the Father to those who long for this knowledge and the fellowship He offers. Seek the knowledge of the Lord that does not simply exist in books or by intellectual means. As Isaiah declares “seek the Lord while He may be found” (Is.55:6). Draw near to Him while that door remains open. Jesus said “learn from me, for I am meek and gentle of spirit”. This is the open door He has set before the church today, a door into the knowledge of the Lord.  Spend time with Him today, seek to learn the true soul saving knowledge of the Lord.
